Progress...on other fronts

The short of it is that I haven't touched my original project in two weeks. The week before that I actually did meet my 3-day goal, but the following week was devoted to my prospectus, and this last week has been something of recuperation from said devotion to my prospectus. The good news is that I actually did manage to complete a full draft of the thing (minus bibliography, which will be insanely long--but that's the next step). I should get feedback from my adviser late next week. Naturally, I'm half terrified and half excited--when I'm not just pretending that it doesn't exist.

In other progress, I read a book today--Lois Lowry's Gathering Blue. It's one of the books I picked up a couple weeks ago from our local library's book sale--which was on sale for "spring cleaning," so I got a good stack of books for all of $3 and change. It was beautiful. I'm not sure how I feel about Gathering Blue aside from the fact that the ending felt significantly too vague for my taste--that is, too vague to be satisfying. I mean, it was better than the finale of Air, but...still. I also have a sneaking suspicion that I've outgrown that particular style of dystopian novel. The Giver will forever be one of my favorite books of all time, but since this book kind of felt like a less engaging variation on the same theme, I was a little disappointed.

The big thing, though, is that I'm READING. I'm reading books that were written in the last 15 years. Books that aren't even books about other books that were written 300 years ago. (Ok, random note--I never think about the fact that many of the texts I'm studying were written 300 years ago. It makes them seem so much older...and, I admit, it makes me feel a little bit cooler.)

My goals for this week include reading another book from my new stash (maybe The Book Thief), working on Bridget four days (now that the prospectus is less looming), and putting together my prospectus bibliography. (And, you know, raising my 2-year-old while growing another baby, trying to keep the house somewhat decent, and not going crazy. Yes. That should keep me pretty busy.)
