Gold Star Tuesday

Last week I was all about breaking down my goals into simple, manageable steps. I've been having problems with an editing block in Chrysalis and I thought forcing myself to just look at the document for 30 minutes at a time would help me fall back into the story.

I'm so pleased to report that it worked. I wanted 3 out of 6 days and I got them. One thing that's really helped me motivate and track my success is utilizing my gmail calendar and giving myself tasks to cross off. Then, I award myself an Awesome Point and track it on my pretty paper calendar next to my computer. For example, because I earned 15 points for my Kung Fu competition last week, I got 15 Awesome Points. I got 3 points for working on Chrysalis. And then some miscellaneous points for doing other, boring chores.

Then, at the end of the month, I will have an idea of how awesome I can be and reward myself accordingly. Probably with hardback books, clothing, or a new Kung Fu accessory.

Yes, this plan looks like the gold star tallies elementary school teachers use to ensure good behavior in their children. I'm not above treating my resistance like a second grader because that's what it is.

So next week I will up the stakes! Chrysalis success will be measured by:
  • 4 out of 6 days, at least 30 minutes
  • make a list of February goals
  • make a list identifying the new problems you're creating with this edit so you can fix them faster
Yes. Lists. Bullet points. Easy enough.

Also, because I haven't complained about it enough, I am cold. Always.
